Dr. Trey Rigert, a distinguished Physiatrist, and Pain Management Physician holds dual board certifications in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Addiction Medicine. He embarked on his professional journey before the widespread acceptance of interventional pain management and chronic opioid therapies. He graduated from medical school in 1989 and completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the University of Irvine in 1993. Dr. Rigert has extensive experience in medical directorship, including leading two inpatient physical rehabilitation programs and a comprehensive chronic pain program. As the founder of Columbia Pain Management, he exemplifies expertise in interventional pain care. He served as the Quality Medical Director at Providence Hood River Medical Center and previously held the position of President of the medical staff. Outside of his professional pursuits, he is devoted to his family, enjoys Hood River’s outdoor activities, engages in community service, and coaches a robotics team. Dr. Rigert’s passion for his work is palpable, driven by a continuous desire to improve patient care.

Dr. David Russo, DO, MPH

Dr. David Russo, an accomplished Physiatrist and Pain Medicine Specialist, brings a wealth of expertise in managing and treating pain. He is triple board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine, and Addiction Medicine. Following an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Russo pursued his medical and graduate degrees at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. His postgraduate training includes a residency at the Mayo Clinic and a fellowship at the Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Russo is respected for his contributions to pain treatment and regenerative therapies research and development and his advisory roles in medico-legal and clinical risk management. Dr. Shelley Smith, MD

Dr. Shelley (Michelle) R. C. Smith, MD, an alumna of the University of Minnesota Medical School, is a dedicated physician specializing in Occupational Medicine and Pain Management. With a significant part of her career devoted to caring for patients experiencing chronic pain, Dr. Smith played a pivotal role in establishing the Occupational Medicine Department at Providence Hood River. Her commitment to advancing patient care led her to explore and integrate novel treatments, including guided imagery and educational programs, into her practice. Since joining Columbia Pain Management, she has been instrumental in developing personalized pain education programs, empowering patients to manage their pain effectively and improve their quality of life.

John Hatheway, MD

After completing undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley, he earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine, completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and completed a Pain Medicine Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His career reflects sustained leadership in pain medicine, including active-duty service with the United States Navy and long-standing physician leadership as the owner of Northwest Pain Care in Spokane, Washington. He is widely respected for his expertise in interventional pain management, neuromodulation, and multidisciplinary care, as well as for his contributions to clinical research and physician education. Dr. Hatheway has close family ties to the Columbia Gorge and Portland areas and is committed to high-quality, patient-centered care.

She completed her undergraduate education at the University of California, Berkeley, earned her medical degree from St. George’s University, and trained in Anesthesiology at New York Medical College–SJRMC, followed by an Interventional Pain Medicine fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Prabhu takes a personalized, evidence-based approach to pain management, combining interventional procedures with tailored therapies to improve quality of life and restore function. Outside of medicine, she enjoys the outdoors, travel, artistic pursuits, and time with family and friends.

A graduate of Chicago Medical School, Dr. Blatt completed his residency and fellowship at the USC-LA County Medical Center. His board certifications and a commitment to ongoing education underscore his dedication to patient care. Dr. Blatt’s comprehensive approach to pain management includes innovative treatments and personalized care plans. His contributions extend beyond patient care to leadership roles within the medical community and volunteer medical missions. Laura Scobie graduated from Emory University school of Medicine, Physician Assistant Program. She received her bachelor’s degree in physiology and neuroscience at University of California at San Diego. Laura has been a commissioner on the Oregon Pain Management commission for the past 6 years. She is also on the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program advisory commission as well as the Oregon Medical Associations Opioids Task Force.
Laura has lived in Hood River since 2003 and enjoys the gorge lifestyle. She and her family like to watch their kids play lacrosse and basketball, ride bikes and go out for dinner.

MICHAEL DAVIS, PA-C

PA Davis began his career in Family Medicine, building on a foundation of general medical training. Before becoming a PA, he gained valuable experience in pre-clinical cardiac surgery research and medical device development, including contributing to the early evaluation of the DaVinci robotic surgical system.
After several years in Family Medicine, he found his passion in pain management, recognizing its profound impact on patient outcomes and personal fulfillment. He transitioned to full-time pain management, training under national experts, and has spent nearly 20 years specializing in the field. His diverse experience includes advanced pain care in California, New York, and Oregon, with notable work in a leading oncology center in New York.
At Columbia Pain Management, PA Davis collaborates closely with other providers to ensure comprehensive care. His patient-centered approach emphasizes individualized treatment plans and evidence-based therapies. He supports a full spectrum of pain management strategies, integrating conventional and advanced therapies to optimize patient outcomes.

Cassidy Berg, PA-C, DMSc
Physician Associate
Cassidy graduated from Pacific University in Hillsboro Oregon with a Master’s of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and Doctorate of Medical Science. She received her bachelor’s degree in physics with a minor in philosophy and chemistry at San Diego State University. Prior to her PA career Cassidy was a river guide across the country and abroad, and an EMT ski patroller most recently at Mt. Hood Meadows. She has a background in emergency medicine, a passion for musculoskeletal injuries and rehabilitation, and finds joy connecting with her patients. She lives in the Gorge and enjoys whitewater kayaking, kite boarding, skiing, mountain biking, and surfing.

Gary Strosser, PA-C
Physician Associate
Gary is a board-certified physician associate and lifelong Oregonian. He earned his associate’s degree at Clackamas Community College and his bachelor’s degree at Portland State University, leaving Oregon only briefly to complete his master’s in medical science at the Yale University School of Medicine.
Before becoming a PA, he was an EMT, volunteered as a medical scribe at the Clackamas Free Clinic in Oregon City, where he continues to serve as an associate, and worked at Adventist Hospital in Portland as an ER scribe and cardiac technician. He has since practiced as a PA in physical medicine and rehabilitation, urgent care, and pain management. He is especially drawn to pain management for its focus on helping patients understand their pain and guiding them toward thoughtful, effective treatment alongside world-class colleagues.
Gary lives in Oregon City with his wife and identical twin daughters. Outside of work, he enjoys time with his family, being outdoors, reading widely, indulging his inner nerd, and listening to rock and roll.

Brendon Shibley, FNP-C
Brendon Shibley is a Family Nurse Practitioner who graduated from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner, he attended Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, IN, where he played collegiate golf and majored in both biology and psychology. Initially, he became a Registered Nurse in 2019 and spent his entire bedside nursing career working in cardiovascular critical care. He decided to become a Family Nurse Practitioner to get away from the inpatient setting and to have more time to spend with his family. He is passionate about pain management and collaborating with patients and other providers to form a comprehensive plan of care to improve their functionality and quality of life.

I incorporate ideas and methods from interpersonal neurobiology, object relations theory, and cognitive behavioral frameworks to build a safe base first by “starting where the client is” and then work to build successful interpersonal relationships and promote healthy human development.
